Güneş Müftüoğlu

Güneş Müftüoğlu was born in 1945 in the Çaycuma district of Zonguldak. He completed his primary and secondary education in Çaycuma, and attended Mehmet Çelikel High School for his high school studies. He later graduated from the Istanbul Faculty of Law.

During his university years, Müftüoğlu studied at the Üsküdar Music Society under the late composer Emin ONGAN and participated in the society’s Istanbul Radio choir. After completing his military service, he practiced law in Çaycuma and also served as a legal advisor for a labor union.

He was elected as a Member of Parliament from Zonguldak in the 1987 and 1991 general elections. Between 1992 and 1995, he served as Deputy Group Chairman of the True Path Party (DYP) and held the position of Minister of State in the 50th Government.

Müftüoğlu has published the books Meclisin İçinden – Eylül 1995, Hukuk Devleti – Ağustos 1994, and Sosyal Devlet ve Hukuk Devleti – Aralık 1995. He also has two unpublished works ready for print: Türkiye’de Merkez Sağ ve Merkez Solda Birlik Arayışı and Zonguldak Araştırması – Ağustos 1997.

Müftüoğlu, also a qanun player, has composed works in Turkish classical music. His songs "Zonguldak Şarkısı" in the Uşşak makam and nimsofyan rhythm, and "Mavi Dilekler" in the Kürdili Hicazkâr makam and düyek rhythm, are included in the TRT repertoire and have been performed publicly.
