Neva, one of the oldest modes in Turkish classical music whose origin is unknown, is also the name of a pitch. The nev\u00e2<\/strong> mode generally carries a lyrical, religious, and mystical character.<\/p>

The junction point of the U\u015f\u015fak tetrachord and the R\u00e2st pentachord is the Neva pitch. On this pitch, a R\u00e2st flavor is typically applied; occasionally, by descending with the attraction of Evi\u00e7 and gaining the Acem pitch, a half cadence with a B\u00fbselik flavor is performed.<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Above the dominant pitch in the Neva scale, there is a R\u00e2st flavor, which is highly characteristic of this mode. In the R\u00e2st scale at the tonic, the third degree\u2014Seg\u00e2h\u2014is known to host occasional passing cadences. In the Neva mode, the pitch corresponding to Seg\u00e2h within the R\u00e2st pentachord is Evi\u00e7. On this pitch, descending with the Seg\u00e2h trichord or from above using T\u00eez Seg\u00e2h yields a Seg\u00e2h flavor; descending with T\u00eez B\u00fbselik produces a Ferehn\u00e2k flavor. Additionally, the pitch of Acem (mi with a bakiye sharp) may be used as an auxiliary tone. Passing cadences can also be made on Seg\u00e2h using Seg\u00e2h or Ferehn\u00e2k pentachords. The main half cadence on the Neva pitch carries a R\u00e2st flavor. However, occasionally, instead of Evi\u00e7, descending to Acem allows for a B\u00fbselik-flavored half cadence. Both R\u00e2st and B\u00fbselik have semitone leading tones. When these flavors are applied on the Neva pitch, the auxiliary tone is N\u00eem Hicaz (do with a bakiye sharp), which serves as the leading tone for both. Therefore, N\u00eem Hicaz is used as the leading tone during half cadences in Neva. Sometimes, it is even used as an ornamental lower neighbor to Neva. Some argue that using N\u00eem Hicaz in this way is incorrect. The R\u00e2st pentachord above the dominant Neva pitch is extended in the Neva mode by adding a B\u00fbselik tetrachord on the Muhayyer pitch, forming an Acem-colored R\u00e2st scale.<\/p>

Additionally, if desired, the U\u015f\u015fak tetrachord on the tonic pitch may be symmetrically transposed to the upper tonic (t\u00eez durak). However, it must be noted that in both types of extension, no passing cadence can ever be made on the Muhayyer pitch. These extensions are theoretical constructs to determine which pitches may be used when the melodic line exceeds the upper tonic.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

The melodic progression begins around the dominant Neva pitch. After freely exploring the flavors that form the scale, a half cadence is made on the Neva pitch. Passing cadences may be shown either before or after this point.
